Alfred E Smith Career and Technical High School

Charyn: My son, Keanu, is a senior at Alfred E. Smith. His major is the Automotive program.  He doesn't want to miss a day of school, even when he's sick.  This year, I've seen a change in my son.  He is connecting to the 'real world' not just as a student, but as a more responsible and reflective young man.  He speaks with integrity, he's concerned about procedures, regulations and other people's safety.  He's visualizing how the skills he's learning can lead to him owning his own business.
This is a student who tested for and attended gifted and talented schools...and yet, he chose this vocational high school, because of his passion for deisel engineering and  truck design.

He has been working on my pick up truck at his school, making modifications, which are translating into better gas mileage and I'm getting such an education from him!  His friends are students there, too, and they are very polite, motivated and respectful.  He speaks highly of his teachers.  Of course, schools are experiencing so many challenges today, but we should be supporting and strengthening those which students can connect with.
