Dimitrios & Georgia Kaloidis Parochial School Reviews
Dgk is a small, but well structured private school in Bay Ridge. As a parent, I can truly say that the school has come a long way. In September of 2012 a new principal came on board, and has turned the school around in the most positive way possible.
The children are happy and look forward to school each day. The education and curriculum seems to have improved tremendously. The children are challenged by their teachers who are passionate about teaching.
I am a parent of a happy student at DGK!!
I recommend the school to any family that is looking for a great school that provides a great education with a safe and warm evniroment.
It is upsetting to read negative reviews about this school, which is contradictory to what actually is. Since the recent change in administration this year, DGK has made an absolute-turn around. Last year, the growth and livelihood of the school was plighted by poor administration. As a component of the learning environment of the school, I can personally affirm that the new principal's presence has done nothing but welcome beneficial changes. Since the beginning of the year, everything that she has vowed to work on and change, she has assuredly followed through on her word; such as a new bell system, teacher support, plentiful resources, positivity for the students, and so much more. Change is not easy, and often takes time to adjust to. However, change has been the most advantageous theme here at DGK this year. The principal and school board have been working in tandem to assure that DGK can continue to develop the framework of this school. In addition, the school faculty and staff have also worked extremely hard in favor of fostering a better and STRONGER learning environment. Here at DGK, everyone is a person of their word. Parents also continue to extend the olive branch and help promote the academic and social growth for their children. One of the faculty members established a School Student Council, which is comprised of the 8th grade and an advisor, to provide service to esteem and energize this school positively with fundraisers and a school-spirited presence. Every individual of this DGK community has the opportunity to contribute to this school, if they want to. And we are always with open arms accepting love and care. We've all recently adopted openness to change and improvement, and students and staff feel that. With the installment of new program curriculum, common core standards, school-spirited activities, parochial policies to follow, structured teaching and learning styles, a positive problem-solving attitude, and welcoming means of communication, we have never been better. Our technology teacher has also worked so hard in reshaping our wonderful school website. The principal continues to welcome a new set of ethics that we practice, so when we say "we do EVERYTHING we can to ensure that each child receives the best education possible" - we whole-heartedly mean it. To see children inspired by learning is a gift. Our middle school science teacher works extremely hard after school with students for the Science Olympiad, with which the students attend competitions. From nursery through 8th grade, this school is grounded in education which does not flounder. This school is also grounded in the safety and well-being of ALL of our children - we care for each other and learn together. DGK continues to uphold and promote the Christian faith, virtues and beliefs, by loving and respecting the community which surrounds us, Liturgy, and the apparent presence of moral values. We encourage love, kindness, acceptance, and humility to help our children grow successfully within this hardworking, disciplined establishment of school and life. Some of our principles: All students are accepted and welcomed. Positive behavior and thoughtful actions are modeled by staff. All students are accepted and welcomed, not only those of the Greek Orthodox Christian faith. All students and staff are treated with respect and dignity. Individual differences in students and staff are respected. Parents are meaningfully involved in the school. Wellness is fostered in all students. Responsibility is developed in all students. All students feel accepted and welcomed. Differences in culture, race, religion, and ethnicity are recognized and appreciated. All students are actively involved in school activities. The school has a vision and mission statement. The school has introduced measures to ensure is safe and caring. Staff has developed programs and initiatives to ensure all students feel they belong. All students are expected to learn and grow based on their individual abilities and skill levels. School and classroom rules are important. The school and classroom both provide opportunities for a high degree of student involvement. Teachers build a calm atmosphere in the school and classroom. Staff establishes structure and routine in the school and classroom. Parents are kept informed of their children's program and progress - by via e-mail, phone calls, and parent-teacher conferences. Teachers and parents work collaboratively. Teachers encourage a positive and optimistic approach to learning. Teachers establish rapport with each student. Teachers use effective and professional practices for current common core curriculum. The principal is a STRONG education leader who continually involves the staff, parents, and students. Two words I've recapitulated in this review: "continue" and "change" - why? Here at DGK we continue to change and adapt in order to meet our learners where they are at while addressing societal changes as well. Check out our school website if you are interested in more highlights, http://www.dgkschool.com/ - We are blessed!
Great education Great school. Great environment. Excellent new principal. My children are very happy. I am very satisfied with DGK.
The principal of this school is very welcoming and so are some of the teachers. My child's teachers are great but the overall atmosphere is not very warm. I would recommend the pre-k program but from what I can see I wouldn't send my child to this elementary school. Very strict form of Christianity. The children aren't even allowed to dress up for Halloween.
I am very happy with the decision to send my child to DGK. It is a very warm and nurturing environment. My child wakes up every day and looks forward to going to school.
The principal, teachers, board, parents and students work collaboratively to foster and ensure academic success.
The parents of DGK are highly engaged and involved in the life and success of the school.
My child is safe, happy, learning and loving school!
