PS 172 Beacon School of Excellence

Although my daughter is zoned for this school, when it came time for kindergarten, I started looking at private schools.  However, living in Brooklyn and taking my daughter to Manhattan everyday (which is what she did for pre-school) is quite burdensome for her as well as for me.  So I decided to check out my zoned school.  My socks were blown off by how well run the school is, and how high the test scores were.  Mr. Spatola is the most caring, attentive, thoughtful principal I have ever met.  I remember cowering in fear of my principal when I was in Kindergarten.  Not so with Mr. Spatola, all the kids are vying for his attention- and he knows everyone by name.  Not to say he is not stern when needs to be.  He just walks the line between caring and stern so well.  If I could add stars, I would give a 10.  I am so happy that I live in the zone for this National Blue Ribbon school.  And although I work in the city- I will not be moving for the next 5 years to ensure my daughter can stay in the school.

maria siguencia: I have to say this..my brother and sister went to PS 172, now my daughter. She is on 3rd grade, she loves the school. Mr. Spatola's leadership and his commitment to the school is unique and well-provided. I thank all the faculty that provides great education to my girl.
