PS 270 Joanne Dekalb School

One teacher who actually wants to teach and who cares for the children is no longer there.  My son was in 3rd grade 2009.  I really liked the school then.  

I agree with the posting from March 2009. When my child graduates in June, I am also taking my other children out of this school. The staff is very unprofessional, except for a select few, who are criticized when they try to teach rather than test prep like everyone else. Children are discouraged from going to gifted and talented middle schools, because the children are so ill prepared. There is a computer teacher who teaches no computer skills except, typing and how to play video games. There is only 1 5th grade teacher, so half the class was sent to the 4th grade. Now the 4th grade teachers have to teach both 4th and 5th grade at the same time. The children receive minimal discipline after fights. Which is very upsetting because my children have never been a discipline problem. During drop offs in the morning and dismissals, the lunchroom is in chaos while the staff watches. If you want your child in a school where parental involvement is not welcomed, and the environment is chaotic, this is the perfect school for you.

n/a: PS 270 is a wonderful school.  The principal cares about the children and so do the teachers.  I will  not hesitate to enroll y student there.   My child was in third grade last year and I am happy with the outcome. He had a wonderful teacher who I am confident cares about his well being.  My child come home telling me goof things about this lady and I hope that my second child gets to be in her classroom too, and I will fight for that to happen. I am a peace when my child is at school, I know that I do not have to worry about him.

I cannot wait for my son to graduate so that I don't have to deal with the ignorant ,lazy, disorganized staff and unruly, undisciplined children anymore.  My son has been bullied so many times that I am now taking my daughter out of that school and never stepping foot in that horrible excuse for an educational institution, again. The school just keeps getting worse and the people are unprofessional.  The children are not disciplined adequately and bullies get away with hurting children and only get suspension for a few days.  The same children continue to be suspended more than twice and no expulsion ever takes place. Parents are called to meet and nothing comes out of it except yelling and the statement "children will be children" comes out of the every staff member's mouth, to excuse the bullying.  It's funny because my children don't bully other children.  My kids have never been suspended either.  The bullies are left to roam the halls and terrorize the school.  What kind of learning environment is that for a child who actually wants to be there and learn?!  Do not enroll your child in this school!!!!  It had a grade of F last year and that says it all.
