School Mission Statement
The school has a new principal, Mr. Brett Gallini. Mr. Gallini was appointed to the school on July 2, 2007. PS 201: is no longer the Kissena School. Through a United States Department of Education Federal Magnet Grant the school opened in September 2008 with a new name: The Discovery School for Inquiry and Research. The school has a brand new library, thousands of dollars in new technology such as SMART Boards, mobile laptop carts as well as external partnerships, Saturday enrichment, arts for all students, and after school inquiry and research clubs. PS 201 is a Columbia University Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project school. The school is making extraordinary progress and recently received a letter grade of "A" on the 2007-2008 progress report. Test scores are up--the attendance rate is up and reportable incidents are down.
The school has an exceptional teaching staff that constantly works to improve outcomes for children. All staff members are fully certified. The school boasts small class size and individualized instruction for all students.
