Fiorello H Laguardia High School Reviews

Is a great School for its concept and for Student's possible future choices

By , a Parent on

I think, being only a parent, that LaGuardia has a lot of very good teachers, incredible tools and laboratories, theaters and chances to have fun and pre-real life-at-work experiences. The "mass" of school work assignments and strive some student here is talking about, it's nothing compared to the medium Italian high school, incredible torture of homework assignment that keeps you up until midnight and I do not believe that to "force" all those informations in a student brain is good at all. A young brain is magic, mostly because is clean. I loved the way my son was learning, participating to school lessons and being really involved more than being overwhelmed by a lot of back-home study. I loved the way they gently gave the good example, the parity of interaction between students and teachers, impossible in Italy, so old fashioned! And all the magic on how to rehearse, play, sing and more. My son went a long way thanks to this experience, and never feeling alone. And he was a foreign student, arrived from Italy at 14, without a family.
He found a family in the school and in his friends. Good friends, all young, and with a dream, for what I can see.

I don't recommend this school to anyone who expects to be laid back and lazy not motivated and doesnt like to work at all if this is you don't apply here it might be the worst decision you could make if you don't want to work
But if you want to work be challenged and have a very excellent academic education as well as your performance education this is the school for you.

This school is not what I expected.  For a specialized school I had very high hopes.  My child went into that school with over a 90 average and now hates going to school.  If you are in advanced classes the teachers resent teaching a freshmen in a sophmore class or a Sophmore in a junior class.  I hae to force my child to go to school now.  I can't wait to get out of this school.  I have reached out to administration several times and nothing has changed.  As a parent I would not recommend this school at all!

I was just accepted into Laguardia, and I am very excited to go next year! I think that Laguardia is actually the best performing Arts High School in NYC. Probably the best high school in NYC. It takes talent and brains to be accepted.

It's overrated.

LaGuardia is a horrible school once you hit junior year. There is an obvious difference between the grades, for example, in level of happiness. As a junior, I'm miserable, and plenty of others are too. As a freshman, I was very happy, but all that soon changed. It's not consistent. It overworks you, especially if you're in a lot of honors and APs, and I mean academically. The secret is: it's NOT really an art school. Actually, everyone involved knows this. We have tons more academic classes and requirements than arts. It is like a prison.

I love Laguardia High School. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. The students are really talented. If you go to one of their concerts, you can see how spectacular they are. Everyone's friendly and welcoming, and I love going there and having a good time. They also give you a good education academically.
