Frederick Douglass Academy
I've been going to FDA1 from grades 6-10 and it has gotten terrible. Im guessing they've mad it to a zone school, but now it seems like everyone in there doesnt even belong there. The staff stopped caring, and are just as tired of the place as we are. It has gotten so bad, I had to transfer.

Frederick Douglass Academy
Sheryl Sewer: My daughter has attended FDA1 for 4 years, and has received an excellent education. Although the NYC DOE has served to short-change the school in many ways, the principal and staff have worked diligently to provide resources and experiences not offered in most NYC public middle/high schools. No number rating can adequately define the school's worth! It is a Harlem treasure!

About the NYSA
What is it?
The New York State Assessments are annual tests used to measure a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards. The tests are also used to evaluate schools and determine each school's accountability status.
Which Grades and Subjects?
Students in grades 3 through 8 are assessed in English language arts and math, in grades 4 and 8 in science, and in grades 5 and 8 in social studies.
How is it Scored?
Students receive a score of level 1 through level 4. The goal is for 90% of students to score at or above level 3, the level of proficiency.

What is it?
The New York State Regents Examinations are a series of subject specific tests that measure a student's level of proficiency in each of the subject areas tested.
Which Grades and Subjects?
High school students must pass at least five tests in the following subjects: English language arts, math, global history and geography, US history and government, living environment, chemistry, earth science, physics and foreign language.
How is it Scored?
Every New York high school student must pass (score a 65 or above) at least five Regents examinations to receive a high school diploma. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.
