About the NYSA
What is it?
The New York State Assessments are annual tests used to measure a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards. The tests are also used to evaluate schools and determine each school's accountability status.
Which Grades and Subjects?
Students in grades 3 through 8 are assessed in English language arts and math, in grades 4 and 8 in science, and in grades 5 and 8 in social studies.
How is it Scored?
Students receive a score of level 1 through level 4. The goal is for 90% of students to score at or above level 3, the level of proficiency.

What is it?
The New York State Regents Examinations are a series of subject specific tests that measure a student's level of proficiency in each of the subject areas tested.
Which Grades and Subjects?
High school students must pass at least five tests in the following subjects: English language arts, math, global history and geography, US history and government, living environment, chemistry, earth science, physics and foreign language.
How is it Scored?
Every New York high school student must pass (score a 65 or above) at least five Regents examinations to receive a high school diploma. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.

Tag Young Scholars Junior High School
My elder daughter entered TAG four years ago in kindergarten and my younger daughter entered kindergarten there two years ago. We have been extremely impressed by the teaching staff, academics and enrichment courses that are offered- -ranging from archeology to Medieval art to robotics. TAG is a G&T public school and I feel confident that the work they've done will insure that my daughters are well suited to the master the curriculum at any competitive public or private school when they graduate.

This school is challenging and has good corriculms. We have classes more than once a week and our teachers are always reviewing things with us.

My child started Kindergarten at TAG this past September. Within this short time his reading skills have improved so dramatically that I just shake my head in disbelief now when he reads to me. His teachers and the staff there make him feel welcome every time he walks in the door. The new website, tagscholars.com, is very helpful. There was not much information on them in the past and I was unsure about sending me son there. I am so glad I did. The parent body is motivated and it seems that this year there are big changes coming to improve our school. The 5th graders meet with their book buddy in Kindergarten once a week to read with them. It has made the transition into being around older kids so easy for the little ones. And the 5th graders are so respectful and patient with them. Such a smart idea on behalf of the staff. This school is really putting itself on the map!
