Not an accurate telling
With all the negativity regarding this story that I saw on FaceBook, I decided to do a little investigation. As a retired junior high school teacher (not in North Carolina), I was incensed that a teacher would grade a paper of a second grader (the average age of an eight-year-old) so callously. But the manuscript writing (printing) on the displayed post did not appear to me as that of an eight-year-old child which added to my inquisitiveness. Well, the story is grossly incorrect. The posted picture on FaceBook turns out to be that of a high school student. We can debate whether a high school student should or should not be permitted to write an essay using Jesus as a role model but let's at least get the facts straight rather than castigate an innocent grade school. You may wish to read the real story with the real student's essay yourself at http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/removejesus.asp . I especially appreciate how the grade school administrator handled the situation subsequent to the furor the FaceBook post created.
I love this school! We are new to the area and the people here have been wonderful to us. They seem to really care about the kids. The teachers really care about the kids education and they want them to succeed.
