I really wanted my daughter to attend this school. We went through a lot to get in through the lottery and I was super exited. That led to BIG disappointment when we attended open house. The principal called me the day prior to let us now she was in and inform of open house times. She told me four, when we arrived we waited until 4:30 for it to even start. They did a few announcements while the not more than 15 parents waited…so much for involved parents. Reading about the school I found it is title one which translated to “70% of the students are below the poverty level”. I went into the office twice prior to 4:30 and the ladies refused to assist me. I wanted to find out who my child’s teacher would be. Finally after 4:30 the principal set I should go meet all of them bc she didn’t now. When I questioned that she raised her voice cut me off, and was VERY rude. I loved the idea of “diverse” but this school is minority students almost only and that is why the rude, very unprofessional principal is allowed to behave as though she is on the streets. My daughter will attend our home school. The principal should be ashamed. I am a parent that volunteers and contributes, that is needed in these schools and by the open house they have no parental involvement.

My son will be a new student '11-'12 school year, a Kindergartner we are both looking forward to a great school year. My mom also attended this school as a child.

Christina Nealy: I loved this school this was a very good school for the academics and for the arts! The teachers were amazing, they teached perfectly! UPCA is a AMAZING school! :-) I went there for 6 years and had absolutely NO problems! :-)

University Park Creative Arts Elementary School
I am a current senior in high school and I attended UP from 2nd to 5th grade. It is one of the best things that ever happened to me. I have always loved the performing arts with a passion, so I was very much in my element at UP. Although I enjoyed all of the arts programs, my favorites were band, choir, and drama. Ms. Sharon Frazier, former music teacher at UP, helped develop a part of me that I didn't know existed...she taught me to love music with an intensity and a passion that I will not soon forget.
Next year, I will be attending East Carolina University to major in music education. My plan had been to become a high school band director, but I have recently began considering focusing my attention on elementary school music. It is in the back of my mind that I would love to teach at UP someday. UP gave me the headstart on my future in music. I would soo love to go back someday and inspire kids in the same way that I was inspired. If you're considering sending your child to UP, if they get even a fraction of the experience that I did, it will be well worth it.
Next year, I will be attending East Carolina University to major in music education.
