Easley provides an ordered school environment. Overall, teachers are caring. Testing and worksheets, however, dominate. The school is very much like something out of the past, rather than a reflection of educational research of the past few decades. The principal does his job but seems reluctant to explore new ways to help children learn. I get the feeling that some of the teachers have much more to offer than they are allowed to give.

My son started Kindergarten at Easley in the summer of 2008. We are very happy with this school and the teachers/administration. It is not a very large school, so its easy to get to know people. The PTA involvement is good as well. My son's class has 23 kids in it, a primary teacher and teacher assistant. They are both committed to each child's progress and helping them read. We moved from Wake County to Durham in large part so that I could buy a house and pick with certainty which school my child would attend. This is a big draw for this community. Durham has gotten a bad reputation by many, but I love it here and am very pleased with the school, the town resources (great parks, etc) and overall feel of the city. Yes, there are 'bad' areas but that is a given for any large city, and crime happens anywhere.
