Knightdale High School Reviews

By a Current Student on

I currently attend KHS and it is not a bad school. There are not fights everyday and there are good teachers there. It is hard for this school to be able to move past the negative press and false accusations that so many parents, that don't even see what occurs on a daily basis, and others in the community believe is Knightdale High.
Yes there are fights, but they are not all out brawls, mostly they are screaming and pushing. The only major fight that occurred at KHS was two years ago during SMART lunch, which was blown WAY out of proportion by students that were not even on campus at the time of the incident, and students running into the lunch area when one student was blindly jumped by another. There are other schools in Wake County that have massive fights and even stabbings, but the public doesn't find out about them, so all of the negativity gets put on Knightdale.
There are many opportunities at KHS, but it is up to the student and their guardians to decide if they want to become involved. I am the Marching Band Color Guard Captain,  Student Body Treasurer, Newspaper Editor, VP of JOOI, and Key Club and Gospel Choir member, and there are so many other programs offered to help students, and even parents, succeed.
It is very irritating to read comments from parents who believe KHS is such a bad school. The entire student body is not carrying around balled up fists and weapons in between classes. There are merely a handful of students that decide to become involved in activities seen as non-conducive to the educational environment, but that is at every school, no matter public, private, or charter.
As far as the faculty and staff at the school, I have worked very close with many of them and they are well, if not over, qualified for their positions. There are, just like students, a handful that may be seen as too harsh, or not caring, but there are plenty of opportunities for students, that feel their teacher is not contributing to their success, to get help, or to talk to their counselor about possibilities to address the problems.
I came from Clayton High, and also lived in D.C. and GA, and even though KHS may not be seen as the best school in the state, it is a very good school. It is the students that are not involved in anything at at the school, and their parents that always have something negative to say. If you send your student to Knightdale High they will graduate with all of the skills needed to become a productive member of society, if they get involved.

This is the absolute worst school in the district.  With gang issues, fights nearly every day in the classrooms and hallways, inappropriate remarkss teachers, and a principal who, in my opinion, only cares about keeping her job, I would not recommend this school to anyone, anytime.  I have recently pulled my child out of this horrid place called Knightdale High School to be placed in a more suitable school more conducive to learning.

KHS was just designated as a STEM (Sciene, Technology, Engineering and Math) school and is working on updating to become a more progressive technology driven school.  There are not many choices for AP courses and Honors courses tend to fill up quickly.  There are many extracurricular choices for students.  It's only 6 years old but they already have trailers in the parking lot. We get some bad press because of a small handful of trouble makers but they have some great students, staff and administrators.
