About This School
Charter schools are public schools, but differ from traditional public schools in that they are independent and are operated by educators, parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, or others. Funding for charter schools is based on designated local or state educational organizations. Those organizations are responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality and effectiveness of education, but permit the schools to operate outside of the traditional public school education system. See Arts Based Elementary School's test results to learn more about school performance.
In 2011, Arts Based Elementary School had 15 students for every full-time equivalent teacher. The North Carolina average is 15 students per full-time equivalent teacher.

Arts Based Elementary School Reviews
A Model School
Our son attends Arts Based School. On this 60th anniversary of Brown vs Board of Education, I particularly happy that he is at ABS. He receives a quality education from excellent teachers who care, who have a supportive administration, and with families that are inspired to participate to make the school a better place. We had a chance to send our mixed race son to Catholic School, Montessori, or the well-heeled monochromatic colorless school in the neighborhood whose students always tests very high. We chose Arts Based School. Our son receives excellence in education, with the beauty of looking at life through the arts with a diverse student body, which is a life lesson in itself. We are proud of this school, and feel very fortunate to have it as a choice for our community.
We adore The Arts Based School. I have two kids at ABS and I have watched both of my children blossom emotionally and academically in this wonderful, unique and innovative learning environment. The teachers are amazing, and you couldn't ask for a more engaged, capable or caring principal and staff. There is a true sense of community among ABS families as well that makes it such a special place. My advice to anyone who is wanting something more for their child than teaching to the test, being stressed about unending, pointless homework or anxiety over being timed in math drills is to TAKE A TOUR at ABS (offered each Thursday morning - call for an appt.). You really will be amazed at their curriculum and what this school offers its students!
