Your review will be read and posted by our team within a few days if it meets our guidelines.
Example reviews:
"This school has absolutely changed my son's life! He is a brilliant kid who has a learning disability, and the staff absolutely understands his situation and teaches the way he learns! They are so insightful, understanding and capable, I feel lucky that we are part of that community."
"They have a newly built building which is absolutely gorgeous and very well laid out. In general the staff is caring, but firm. Only bad thing is that parent involvement is not encouraged. Yet!!"
Guidelines:
-
Please be thorough and specific when reviewing a school and try to describe several aspects of the school, rather than focusing on just one. Reviews should be between 10 and 150 words.
-
When it comes to using a teacher or administrator's real name, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Reviews containing negative comments or accusations about named individuals or individuals identified by title, such as "the principal", will not be posted. If you have complaints or unresolved issues, please contact the school directly. Don't think of this as an opportunity to "vent" and do not state data or facts unless you are sure they are accurate.
-

-
Parents and teachers, please write only one review for each school your children attend.

The school is working more diligently this school year than ever to meet the needs of all students. It is a school where high ability children are finding challenges in their work, too.
Thankfully the class sizes are typically small enough that teachers have more time to work with students at their correct levels.
Overall, I think this is an excellent choice for school; the children are in a caring environment where they are learning and are being made to feel part of a community. The parents are also made to feel welcome and asked to help in the education of their children.
Our son Sam began attending Judith Resnik Elementary
just after it opened with the new dedication and the title of Community Learning Center. Originally know as Farilawn Elementary School it has always been regarded as one of the best schools in the Akron Public School District. I beleive what trully makes it special is the involvement of the parents. We have some of the best activities because of our PTA and those teachers who go the extra mile to help.
When the kids were bussed to the swing space facility at Market St., it was wonderful! We were one of the first schools to utilize the space and while my son actually spent his Kindergarten year at Fairlawn and then moved, he's found Resnik to be his very favorite place! It's home and we're as happy as can be with the staff, with communication, with the security and safety of our children and with the fact that we have wonderful opportunities to share our gifts with those in the community around us. It's a wonderful testament to the work that was put into the planning of the space and the time taken to make it what it is for all of us today...a happy place to learn and grow!
The amount of parental involvement at the school is tremendous. This has been the most enjoyable aspect for our family. The parents who come in and organize classroom learning projects, book swaps, and who maintain the library and its reading program are amazing!
Overall, this school has been a special place of learning and community involvement for our family.
The PTA does a great job of enhancing the learning opportunities available for our children, as well as providing opportunities for personal growth for its members.
I highly recommend Resnik CLC.
The teachers do a tremendous job at trying to teach kids at their educational level. This year Resnik has started daily flexible grouping in many of the grades in the language arts program (and some in math). The gifted education specialist and special education specialists works with all the teachers for differentiated instruction within the classroom.
The specials teachers (PE, music and art) are fantastic and work hard at entering students/classes into local competitions. Last year, the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes won awards in a musical composition contest. The music teacher is instructing children with keyboards this year. She has also used African drums and steel drums in past years.
Extracurricular events at the school include 4/5th grade band and orchestra; 3/4/5th grade choir, 4/5th grade track, 3/4/5th grade Foreign language program (French or Spanish), 2/3/4/5th grade ski club; reporter for newsletter; drawing instruction, etc.
The student population is very diverse. The families at this school are wonderful. The PTA offers a variety of family activities to encourage a 'family' atmosphere including movie nights, ice skating, dinner nights out, and Earth Day grounds clean-up. The PTA also supports the students education and achievement with programs like our student recognition assembly, reading at home program, purchasing books for classroom, and volunteering in classrooms.
