Creston Middle School

Ralph Irish: I had the pleasure of meeting a student from Creston in Washington DC in late May.  I was there for a Navy Shipmate Reunion.  One young lady stopped me, after seeing my jacket and hat, which identified me as a veteran, and asked me 'what war I was in?'  I told her that my service time included years that were often called the "Cold War Years", and that the US was not 'at war' with any other nation at that time, but there was still concern for the safety of our country.  

She thanked me for my service to my country and offered me a ball point pen, which had some information about Creston Middle School printed on it.  I later noted other Veterans wearing "T" shirts with the Creston Middle School name on them.  I am assuming that these 'older' veterans were given the shirts by other students, or perhaps some of the teachers/chaperones who were traveling with the students.  

I was very impressed with the behavior of the Creston students when I saw them in other places, during our tours.  They were very well behaved and although they were enjoying themselves, they were not doing so at the expense of others.  A great tribute to the
leadership from the teaching staff and the various family situations.

I meant to write a letter to the principal before the end of the school year, but I misplaced the pen until today.  (6-26-10)  I still plan to write the letter, but it probably won't receive any attention until later in the year.  I have to rate my personal experience with Creston Schools as "Five Star" overall, and for Extracurricular Activities.
