Washington Irving Elementary School Reviews

The best thing about our school is the large number of parents who have become involved in making it better.  We have hundreds of parents who volunteer their time during the school year.  They do everything from teaching art classes to organizing fun family events.  The library staff is also very awesome; the kids love going there to pick out books!

My daughter is currently in her 5th year at Washington Irving, and we have nothing but great things to say. She loves going to school, has had amazing teachers, and the office staff is always very helpful. I'm shocked that anyone would write anything negative, about the school. Yes, the parking lot is packed, at pick up time, but that's part of going to a big school. It is very organized. The worst thing is parents who are not considerate about people waiting behind them in line. You can't blame the school for that.

I took my child out of this school this year.  I never had any personal problems, but watching the problems of others was more than enough to make me want to leave!  My child's teacher was a gift, but the rest of the staff was terribly rude and snotty.  The pick up situation was rediculous, and someone is going to be seriously injured if modifications are not made in the parking lot.

My four year old learned valuable life lesson on her first day.  Some students brought the pre-K teacher a gift and others (most) didn't.  Well the ones who brought gifts, got nice words of welcome, hugs, etc.  Those that didn't: "go sit down over there".   Guess they do teach politics in pre-K.  Nice.

Unresponsive and arrogant teachers with fairly dismissive attitudes towards parents who are not volunteering to do work for them. Volunteer parents and teachers seem to be cliquey, administration staff are assuming and superior. The drop off situation is a nightmare with cars backed up into the street. We will be moving to another school next year.

I was surprised and relieved to read the comments on the first review. I also find Washington Irving to be very weak academically. I also found teachers to be very arrogant, with nothing to back it up. After all of the great rhetoric about this school, I was and remain very disappointed. I am looking into alternative schooling.

Very weak school. Arrogant teachers. I have also made other arrangements for schooling for my child.

I have two kids at WI.  We have been very impressed with the academic progression of both kids.  The teachers demonstrate a high level ownership in their students academic achievement, are very approachable and really foster a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.  The Principal is very engaging and it's evident that he holds the teachers accountable for student performance. I would recommend this school to all Edmond residents.

I was not pleased.  We have made other arrangements for schooling for our child.
