Sooner Elementary School Reviews

Very Pleased Parent

By , a Parent on

I have three children attending Sooner Elementary and I am a pleased parent.  My kids are excelling in their classes and enjoy going each day.  I have found the staff to be pleasant and inviting.  The school recently changed principals and the change is evident.  The new principal, (Mr. Mac, as the kids affectionately call him) has done a superb job of building a rapport with the kids and parents alike.  He even started a WATCH DOG program where dads patrol the halls and help out during school hours.  Sooner Roadrunners are top notch and always working to improve and strive for excellence.

This is a horrible school.  We have owned the house where we currently live for 13 years.  Our 7 year old son went to private pre-school and kindergarten.  We decided that for first grade, he could go to Sooner because it was closer because it is less then a mile away, it is free and it is in the Moore School District so it couldn't be bad.  We were SOOO wrong.  He started going there in the fall of 2010.  His teacher was gone at least three days a week for the three months that he attended Sooner. His class usually had a different substitute when she was gone so there was no continuity at all.  The children cannot talk in the hallways and they get in trouble for talking during lunch, let me say that again DURING LUNCH.  If you get in trouble you have to sit out of recess and not talk.  When he would finish his work, he would go try to help another kid in his class if they were having a hard time with some work, since that is what they did when he went to the private school, and of course he got in trouble.  Then they called my husband and I one morning and said that we had to come to the school right away. They told us that he had ADHD and we need to put him on medicine.  They had not done any testing for it at all, they just told us that.  We decided to put him into a different private school that is more expensive then the first one and is 30 miles away because it is a much better school. We had to hold him back since he didn't learn anything for four months and I drive at least an hour a day (sometime two) to avoid having him go to that school.  I have other friends who have moved out of the school area because it so bad.  A teacher that my friend's son had this year would call him names and go up to him and pinch him on the neck.  He is a nice kid but even if he wasn't, no teacher should do that.  AVOID THIS SCHOOL AT ALL COSTS!!!
