Thoreau Demonstration Academy Reviews
Thoreau was not a positive experience.
I went to Thoreau all three years of middle school (I am a sophomore in high school now), and I would not recommend it even to my worst enemy. The academics are alright, and most of the teachers know what they're talking about, but the majority of classtime is spent with busywork. The majority of teachers, also, are condescending and unfair just in general.
The students (though, they may have changed since I've been there) were generally upper middle class and unkind. Racist, homophobic and overall bad remarks were made often, and teachers did nothing about it.
The worst thing about Thoreau was likely the strictness. Discipline is great for a child - but overdoing it can lead to some serious psychological issues. Getting in-school suspension all day for not having your shirt tucked in, or forgetting to wear a belt, can really take a toll on kids.
To conclude: The school needs work. I wouldn't send my children there until it got better.
Love this school !
I am raising my granddaughter who just graduated from Thoreau. This is a great school with a great atmosphere, great teachers and a great principal. I would recommend to anyone.
This school is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! In elementary school, I dreaded school. But now, school is my FAV thing ever. Thoreau is AWESOME!!!!
