Thurston Elementary School Reviews
This is a great school!
Thurston Elementary has a wonderful Principal, caring staff, and a positive atmosphere. Since getting a new principal, they deal with bullying much better. The Special Ed and Life Skills teachers are wonderful and inclusion is going well. I love the morning meeting every day in the gym. It gets the kids off to a positive, fun start and it makes them feel like they belong. It's really nice also that they recognize every students birthday through out the year.
High student to teacher ratio. Not 24:1 like claimed in 2010. I was there volunteering every week. Since the inclusion with the children with behavioral issues, more time is being spent dealing with those kids than teaching now. It is very disappointing. I personally feel my child is loosing out because of these kids. Children and teacher are being hit or verbally abused. These kids are given incentive for being "good" while my child gets nothing for doing what she suppose to. The principle ,Shari tries resolve issue but really more for a show. Teachers are pretty good. There are few in there that really do care. All you got to do is ask the "good" kids. They will tell you.
The staff needs to do a better job dealing with bullies and children who are victems of them. Looking into something isnt doing anything..
