Upper Darby Senior High School Reviews
Like all schools, Upper Darby High School has its problems. The problems do not lie within the staff but the fact that the school has had such praise in the past that parents from other districts want their children to attend there. Now you can take the child out of the hood but you can't take the hood out of the child, and because of the way the child acted in their old schools, it is then brought over to Upper Darby. The teachers are by far amazing and give their all and then some to make sure your children succeed. Whether or not your child does is solely based on said child, not the teachers. There are hundreds of ways to get in contact with a teacher, and very little if not no reason a student cannot. Once people who use false addresses to go to Upper Darby High are caught and only those who actually live in the area are left, the school will still seem overcrowd, but it will feel more like a family and less like a community. I've been a part of that school district my entire life and not once have I regretted it. Nothing in the media nor on this site will change my opinion on Upper Darby High School.
It's a good school, and will be better when they get everyone out who does not live in the district
The school is in rapid decline. What was once a good school is now an overcrowded taxpayer moneypit. Who else would pay $5000 (1999 figures), let alone 10000 a year on this school when you can go to a much better public school on $2000? "Parent" doesnt know what he/she is talking about. I attended back in the day and it was way too overcrowded then. The demographics have changed and not for the better. For a person coming from a trash neighborhood like west philly im sure it seems like an oasis
The school is horrible! There are way too many students in that school for one. Second that school cares way too much about their dress code rather than education. Someone comes to school with tights on even if it's appropriate, they are sent out of the class until someone brings them a change of clothes. So they are missing class time. They complain about how the school isn't doing too well in education. Even though some students may not be motivated enough to work hard, some of their teachers act as if they don't want to be there.
Upper Darby is a wonderful school. It may get a bad rep becuase of its area but my children attend there and absolutly love it. Their teachers are absolutly amazing, full of knowledge and obviously love their jobs. Anyone who says they dont like this school, obviously do not have any inkling of Upper Darby. It may be overcrowded, but the teachers try their very best to teach the children things that many other schools do not. College students go into freshman year, mostly repeating work they had done their senior year. THis school is absolutly lovely
Upper Darby High School is terrible! I too agree that they are understaffed and overcrowded. I believe that they are just trying to make it day to day as opposed to educating - which should be the objective. There are so many things wrong with the Upper Darby High School staff - lack of concern, minimal knowledge of the courses that they are teaching, and lack of motivation to go above and beyond to teach their students. The school staff is so busy trying to keep everyone of the 4,000 plus students in line that they forget their true purpose - which, hopefully, is to educate.
This school is absolutely awful! It's overcrowded, understaffed, underfunded and under-everything else positive! The only resource in abundance is kids (too many of them!) and unmotivated staff.
