Hansel & Gretel Early Learning Center Reviews
Hansel & Gretel has been my extended family for the past five years. My son recently graduated from the Kindergarten at the Walnut Street location. I would recommend them highly. They are the "Best in Harrisburg". The staff has gone above and beyond the call of duty. I recommend Hansel & Gretel to all my family and friends. Happy children/happy parents.
I have been working for hansel & gretel for 9yrs i also used to attend here when i was in preschool & kindergarten. As a former student of hansel & gretel i was very socialable and was ahead of some of the children in my classes in certain subjects thanks to the education i got from my teachers at hansel & gretel. Now that i am a teacher i find it a joy to watch the kids learn new things, achieve milestones, & see them grow. Like all daycare facilities we have laws that must be followed. We are a star 2 in the keystone stars program. Since it is summer time the children are enjoying waterplay & mr. Scoopy. :) during the fall the children are taught in a montessori fashion. Hansel & gretel is a full of happy children & caring staff.
Removed my daughter halfway through Kindergarten year due to the poor program and impact it had on my daughter. They put on quite a convincing show and lead you to believe they have a wonderful program. Examples: extremely limited recess, once per week on a good week, with excuses ranging from staffing issues to weather- no indoor recess given, per handbook saying otherwise; kids aren't permitted to use forks; their lunch program is mandatory without a doctor's excuse and the food consists of white starches and processed items, same for snack; no access to water, as the water fountain we were shown never worked in the four months we attended, so the kids weren't allowed a drink unless it was lunch or snack time; monthly teacher's schedule of class activities not adhered to 99% of the time; lunch menu not adhered to; no monthly class updates from teacher; some staff are condescending and rude; Director not aware of staff actions or inactions; teacher limited in involvement with kids; afternoon "rest period" is actually a forced heads down on the table period of 30 minutes per day (never informed of this prior to enrolling and the schedule we were given never reflected this); kids are not given opportunity to be independent; Director fails to inform parents of events in a timely manner, giving merely days to sign-up for parent-teacher meetings, etc. We were not the only parents experiencing this and highly regret our decision. Cannot understand how a center can operate without considering the needs of the child and parents.
