Woodmont High School Reviews

Fine school but sure we can make much better

By , a Parent on

My daughter has been a student at Woodmont since 10th grade, she will be a Senior next year.  Anytime I've had a problem either from the classroom or the school itself I've had nothing but success when it comes to being contacted about the concern I had.
Regardless of what high school in Greenville a student attends there is and always will be students who bring drugs to school and who start fights. I went to Carolina High in the 70's and I can remember Armed Police Officers on the roof because of the drugs.
I believe Mr. Imperatti and Mr. Smith are on top of things at Woodmont and if you called them they would do everything in their power to fix your problems.
Remember, we're dealing with teenagers and in this day and age we have to take what our teenagers say with a grain of salt sometimes. The majority are wanting the freedom we as parents often do not want to relinquish.
The respect I've seen from the students at Woodmont towards the administration far outways students in any other school in Greenville.
All my daughter's teachers have been more than willing to answer any questions or help in any way. I believe it is because the teachers, Principle and Assistant Principle want the students at Woodmont to succeed far beyond the students expectations.
We as parents have to stand behind the faculty of the school
our children attend. If the kids understand that you stand behind the school they are more apt to be better students.
Teachers put up with a lot not only from the students but also from the parents and the District. With certain taxes being cut we need to stand behind our schools and our teachers more than ever. If we expect our students to go on to college we have to be willing to stand behind the teachers and faculty and help the students get the education we want them to have. The main responsibility for our kids education starts at home then is moved on to the teacher. Not the other way around.

I for one feel my daughter is in one of the best schools in the Greenville County School District. She has attended a couple where the administration just did not seem to care.

I give Woodmont a "HIGH FIVE" compared to the others we have been affiliated with.

Woodmont High is a beautiful school, and when my kids go there I know I can trust that they are in a clean school environment.  However, nearly everyday they come home and report a fight, drug bust, teacher scandal, etc.  I know my three children are trustworthy enough that they won't stray into these sorts of things, but just knowing what kind of people they are growing up with worries me.  I also know that while a few of the teachers there are great fun and the kids really like them, I don't know that all of them are quality educators.  One... teacher, for example, was recently fired because the highest grade in any of her classes was a 78, and she blamed the students....  After the teachers were changed, however, the class average sky rocketed to an 85.  Still, there are many more teachers I think are doing the same thing.
