I have a great niece who has attended this school since K and is now in 4th grade.  We have been very pleased, the school uses a lot of positive re-enforcment rather than negative punishment.  All her teachers have been way above average.  She is a very good reader and they have done serveral things to encourage her (ie: when she was in the 1st grade, her reading was so advanced they arranged for her to go a 2nd grade classroom for reading).  My niece loves art and drawing and her teachers have really encouraged her in this area.  I have been to several functions at the school and it always is very clean, teachers are interested in the kids, even in large assemblies students are monitored and behavior is excellent.  They do a great job in my opinion of character education incorporated into regular stuff.  I am a former elementary school teacher and although I have not taught for a long time, it is obvious that the leadership at this school is way above average.  I have on occassioned taked to her teacher and they have always been honest and respectful.  We feel that she had received a firm foundation to build on when she goes to middle schools.  I have heard friends and co-workers talk about the schools their children attend and it appears Maxwell is far superior to some of the other schools. When you consider the income level and diverse students that attend this school it is amazing that they consistently perform at a good level.

The only negative thing is not the schools fault.   They have far too many portable classrooms as the city had not done a good job of keeping up with the high level of moving to this area.  They

"They have a newly built building which is absolutely gorgeous and very well laid out. In general the staff is caring, but firm. Only bad thing is that parent involvement is not encouraged. Yet!!"
