Chilhowee Middle School Reviews
My child did great in elementary school.....had good grades, great behavior, motivated and always eager to learn. When he started this so-called middle school (penitentiary is more like it), he became a totally different child. His grades were poor, his attitude was a complete turn-around, and became rebellious against learning. A few months into the year, we found out that he had been singled-out and bullied by one of his teachers. We had kids, parents and other teachers who witnessed it first hand and told us that he was being bullied by this particular teacher. He could not please this teacher at all. He could not blink without getting screamed at and was continuously getting detention and demerits. He lost all desire to attend school and begged us to take him to a different school. This particular teacher told other students that it would be in their best interest to not be around my son!!! After several parent-teacher conferences - with all of his teachers, they all gave good reports of him, except this one teacher. The Principal and Vice Principle told us that this teacher was ex-military and sort of had a military demeanor. IT IS A SCHOOL, NOT A BOOT CAMP!!!!!! I filed several complaints to the school board about this bully, I mean, teacher, but never got any responses. Principals would not return our phone calls. We counted down the minutes that he would be out of middle school. He is now in his second year at high school and is back to his normal self....good grades, great attitude and behavior. Chilhowee Middle School is a joke! Some of the teachers are great, but I believe it could be a better school if they start at the top of the management team and clean house!! Give the teachers an opportunity to teach the kids and treat them like they are worthy of learning. The teachers would have the ability to make it a better school if their leaders did not relay the attitude of "This is the best it gets". REALLY??!!??
MY SON HAD NEVER BEEN IN TROUBLE THE PAST SIX YEARS THAT HE HAS BEEN IN SCHOOL UNTILL HE ARRIVED AT THIS MIDDLE SCHOOL. THE STAFF ARE THE BULLIES AT THIS SCHOOL MORE SO THAN THE STUDENTS. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE , SO IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO BE BULLIED THAN THIS IS THE SCHOOL FOR YOU. THE STAFF IS MORE WORRIED ABOUT BEING ON FACE BOOK AND LOOKING ON THE INTERNET AT SPORTS INSTEAD OF TEACHING. THE HARDER THE STUDENT TRIES TO DO WELL THE MORE THE STAFF BULLIES THEM. MY SON HAD TO GET ON THE HIS HANDS AND KNEES AND CLEAN UP HIS OWN THROW UP, AND THEN WAS SUSPENDED FOR 3 DAYS FOR INTERUPTING THE CLASS. THAT REALY WOULD MAKE ME IF I WERE STILL A STUDENT DO WELL IN SCHOOL.
Too many bullies and less teacher intervention. My son is now having self-mutilation, suicidal tendencies, anxiety and now takes medication for it. He has a counselor that must come at least three to five times a week. He has a psychiatrist that he receives medication from. This has scared him for life. Next year I am home-schooling both my 8th grader and 5th grader. As soon as he left school, the kids on the bus started on his 10 year old brother and 12 years old cousin and make fun of my son still.
I had always heard horror stories about Chilhowee Middle, but it was hard to believe them all. Now that my child is there, let me just say all the stories are true! The teacher's say that they will help the kids, but they don't. They are forever more giving demerits, and detention for stupid things that don't even matter. Teacher's are there for a paycheck! Kid's are not succeding there, because everytime they think they are doing good, one of the teacher's knocks them back down. All I can say is this school is horrible and I wouldn't recommend it at all!!
This is my child's first year at this school, and I am very disappointed in the staff and the behavior of a lot of the students. The teachers would not call me back after I talked to the principal and requested them to do so. If I just show up at the school, it's not a good time. There are not enough parent-teacher conferences to discuss my child's work and grades. The school is falling apart. She did so much better at her other school before coming to this school. I can see why so many parents I have spoken with have pulled their children out of this school and started to homeschool them.
