Gary Anderson: I purchased a home in the Karns School District in September. My son had already started at Bearden High School and was not doing well making the adjustmentment from middle school to high school. He was, as a amatter of fact, failing every subject that he was taking. Some of his teachers had ALREADY given up on him within his first 8 weeks at Bearden, and one had even verbally commented there was no hope for my son, and "HE COULD NOT PASS" her class no matter what he did.
I switched my son to Karns because of my new address change and the difference was obvious IMMEDIATELY, from the guidance counselors who first met my son to the Principal. Dr. Davis called my son into his office the first day, with me present, and looked my son in the eyes and told him that his grades (at Bearden) were simply not acceptable at Karns, and his failure to complete his work would not be accepted while a student at Karns High School. His grades continued to stay low for a couple of weeks and then his teachers got together and called a meeting with my son to work out a plan with him to bring his grades up above passing. They made him COMMIT to do extra work EVERY day to gradually bring his grades up. He made the commitment and they worked with him to help him. It has, to this point, worked, and I have noticed a BIG CHANGE in my son's desire and effort to bring up his grades. For the first time, he CARES. And we owe it to the dedication and desire to help a young boy in need of help, and their EXTRA EFFORT to help him achieve.
It's as simple as this...the teachers at Karns cared. The teachers at Bearden didn't care.
I am SO GRATEFUL for these teachers who have gone the extra step to help my son, when they were not required to do so. They did it because they care for their students. Something that the teachers at Bearden High School were lacking.
Karns High School is wonderful in my opinon and I will continue to sing my praises for Dr Davis and the teachers who dare to care at Karns High School. YEA KARNS! Yo're GREAT!
