I am a student at Margaret Allen in 8th grade. I have attended this school since I started 5th grade. Looking back at these past four years, I am satisfied with the school for what it is. My 5th grade year was a turning point for the school- it was the year they dropped the montessori standard and the first year of Metro's rezoning plan. So, when my 5th grade class entered the school, so was the rest of the school. All of the older children had never been there either. For my 5th and 6th grade years, it was chaotic. Assistant principals came and went, practically two a month. There were many fights, graffiti, and just nonsense. But, as I moved to the other hall in 7th grade, I noticed a change. The former 8th graders were too tired of the school to start anything and had lives. And the younger kids that moved in never knew about crazy Margaret Allen's history. And so things settled down. Now, as 8th grade comes to an end, I have to say that MAMS has come a long way- all with Ms. Ganet Johnson as head principal. Love her or hate her, everyone respects her, for never leaving and sticking with us. It is a much better school. We are no longer under AYP as of last spring. Hopefully, we keep that up in the coming months also. I would recommend this school if you are in it for the long run. Yes, things will happen and you'll want to pull your kid out immediately. But, please hesitate and think back to this rating. You'll see results if you look at the big picture. Plus, these are the friends your kids will spend 4+ years with. Good luck. Go Lady Knights!!
