Long Elementary School
An effort has been made to involve more parents, however, there still needs to be more of an effort to involve parents in the importance of their children's education. Furthermore, instruction is totally driven by the TAKS test. Every decision that the administration of the school (and the district) makes is about how to get kids to pass TAKS. Teachers are overburdened with paperwork and micromanagaed to a tee, therefore there is no time for quality education outside of standardized test performance. Its unfortunate for the students theat this test is shoved down their throats every minute they are in school so that by the time they are in secondary school, they have given up...perhaps this is why secondary schools are in so much trouble? This school as well as all of midlandisd is in a state of crisis!

What is it?
The TAKS is an annual test used to measure a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards.
Which Grades and Subjects?
Students are assessed in Grades 3 through 9 in reading, in Grades 4 and 7 in writing, and in Grades 10 and 11 in English language arts. Math skills are assessed in Grades 3 through 11, and students are assessed in Grades 5, 8, 10, and 11 in science, and in Grades 8, 10, and 11 in social studies.
How is it Scored?
Students receive one of two ratings: met standard or commended performance. The goal is for all students to meet the state standard. Students must pass the TAKS tests in grades 3, 5, and 8 in order to be promoted to the next grade, and in grade 11 in order to graduate from high school.
