Monroe School Reviews

By a Parent on

Monroe Elementary School is an elementary in the Granite School District.  This school has  some great leadership and staff.  The only complaint that I have of this school is a huge lack of parent and community involvement.  I think it has much to do with the lack of financial stability in families. They can't afford to miss days at work.  Also in this community there are many ESL students, so parental involvement could be due to the lack of English Language skills.  The school has done well in implementing free ESL and computer classes for adults.

One thing I really appreciate as a mother are the great after-school programs available.  They range from tutoring to music to sports and  art. These programs are also free which is a blessing for families with low income.  The teachers take time to spend with the kids after school as well.

Also another plus there is a dual immersion program for 1st graders that they are trying out and if it makes a difference it will be expanded.

There are some great companies that have stepped in and helped some of the need through the Junior Achievement program, they provide volunteers from their companies to mentor students.  This school is also a Title I school. (See http://www.brighthub.com/education/k-12/articles/11105.aspx)

Overall, I think this school has struggled in the past.  But I truly feel that this school has improved.  I also feel that we can make it better as a community and as parents.  After all, most of the influence that our kids receive comes from us...the parents.  Be involved and make a difference.
