Central Elementary School Reviews

By a Parent on

Central Elementary is one of the best schools for children to be educated in, in Rockbridge County.  There is classes for French, as well as Spanish languages.  There is a program for musicaly inclinded students who would like to learn violin or celo through the help of a local music group. They have a relativly active PTA group.  Have programs to teach the children healthy living & exercises. So over all, it is a good school.
Although there is all the above benifits to sending your children to school at Central, there are some things that make a parent want to send thier children elsewhere.  Like the fact that there are too many children going to school there, so many so, that the teacher/child ratio is off, too many kids per teacher.  There is insufficient monitoring of the children durring lunch & recess.  All of this has been due to the closing of another school, and having all or most of those children head straight for Central.  So now we have overcrowding of children and understaffing of of teachers/aids etc. at this school.  The principal who used to be out and around the school, who used to stop and chat with the parents all the time is now either not there or hiding in his office, I sure only see him once or twice a week if that and that is only in the office.
So over all, yes, its a good place to get an education for your child, but an education has more to do than with numbers and curiculum, it has to do wtih quality of life too.  Kids need to learn about all the good things in life, not just the numbers and how to's.
