Camp Allen Elementary School Reviews
I have to say that after reading the last review written by "RW" I am a bit disgusted. The school nurse that works at Camp Allen is a caring, loving, hard working woman who is always looking out for the best interests of our children. I have personally witnessed her go to bat for children on more than one occasion. She knows what she is doing and works to the very best of her ability. I have been involved and had children at this school for 10 years and have NEVER had a problem with her. As a matter of fact, I do not know ANYONE that has. To state that she is "blind as a bat" is not only rude and insensitive, but it is defamatory. In stead of putting the school and nurse down, maybe you could come up to the school and help make it better with the rest of our wonderful volunteers. I know almost all of the volunteers, and the initials RW don't ring a bell. Let's try to stay positive and remember that this is about the children and making it the best positive experience for them.
Whatever its a normal school!
I read through all of the posts. All but one of them is true. Every school has its ups and downs. You get to have your opinions, here is mine. Im going to start with the PTA. They aren't a "clique," they are just busy because no one else will join the PTA. $5 is worth joining, they are all a pretty fun group to be around. They need more members so JOIN and quit your whining. Mr. E is really nice, Ms. Lincoln doesn't seem nice, but once you've been around a while and get to know her, she is actually really nice. As far as the Principal, yes shes a little grouchy sometimes, but heck I would be too, she is always extremely busy... once you get to know her, she is quite fun to be around! I have met most of the teachers and I haven't met a "rude" one yet.
What I dont like is that there is no where for the 1st-5th graders to play except in the nasty sand out back. The school and classrooms could use a good cleaning and organizing. The nurse is really sweet, but blind as a bat when it comes to lice checks. They update the schools website ONCE a year. Their lunches are NASTY!
All in all, its a normal school, nothing special, just NORMAL.
If you dont like it, then homeschool or move somewhere else.
After all that is said, dont judge a school on someone elses opinion, go and try to make the best of it and get involved. Sincerely RW
I was on here just to find the number for Camp Allen Elementary School. When I came across this site. I first want to say my English is very broken but I can understand very well and this can be a barrier between myself and others. I moved to VA from Saudi Arabia as an exchange student with a family of five. I didn’t know much about America but I need to learn if this is where I will be for the next 5 years. I don’t know where to start but to say thank you to Camp Allen Elementary.
Thank you for helping me and my family. Two people in particular is Mrs. Lincoln and Mr. Eze. Especially Mr. E as the kids would say. This man is a blessing from Allah. He is helped my family so much and he doesn’t even know. Quick story when I arrived to Camp Allen I didn’t have a vehicle to drive and would have to take a taxi everywhere I go. I need to get kids enrolled in school and I did. I got a taxi and did get them enrolled that’s when I meet Mr. Eze. He asked where I was from and noticed that I spoke Arabic and not good English. So he pulls out his phone with a translator on it. To help me understand better and that was a good idea because it helped me out a whole lot.
So after I got my children registered we waited for a taxi. He stayed late to make sure the taxi came. It never arrived and it was very cold outside. He told me that he would take me and my family home and he did just that.
Thank You Mr. Eze from your Saudi Arabian Family.
Gentleman in the Front
I want to say thank you to Mr. Eze!! He was such a great help for me. I am a single Navy mother who recently moved to VA from the west coast. I called ahead of time to see the things that I would need to enroll my kids. I spoke to a gentleman on the phone whom I come to find out as Mr. E. He was very, very helpful. I needed help, and fast my deployment was cut short and I needed to be in VA in 30 days and I was running around with my head cut off. He told me all the things I would need to have in order to enroll my two kids. I had made sure that I gathered all the paperwork and then some. I told him I would call him once I arrived in town. He told me registration was between 9-3 but that he would stay late to make sure that everything was complete. He stayed late and made sure things were ok!! And for that I just wanted to say Thank You Mr. Eze!!!!!!!
Remember all that you do for others, will never go unnoticed! All my kids talk about his Mr. E. and Camp Allen.
It is sad that one person has so much anger toward a school. My experience at Camp Allen has been wonderful. The staff is friendly and helpful and they do not need to be put in their place. The teachers go above and beyond to help their students and yes there is more than one great teacher per grade level. The principal is great she has been extremely helpful to my family and other families that I have spoken with. I encourage other parents to take the time and get involved in the school. The PTA has done wonderful things and welcome all parents to be involved. For new parents coming to Camp Allen I encourage you to make your decision about the school based on you experience with them and not take an angry persons view as the truth.
I absolutely love Camp Allen Elementary school! I am reading the messages on this board and have become completely disgusted. Despite all the negative feedback said about the staff. You have to remember teachers are underpaid and over worked. Not only do they have to teach children they have to make sure that these kids have manners and accountability that these parents lack. I must say Mrs. Copeland doesn’t come off as a Saint but she is definitely an angel. I have witnessed her go above and beyond for students, parents and staff. As far as the Office staff Mrs. Lincoln and the handsome gentleman (Mr. Eye Candy) have gone above and beyond as well. They are great with the children and parents. When I enrolled my kids, I didn’t have all the paperwork needed to enroll them so “Mr. E” assured that he would get my paperwork from their previous school and contact me when it came in. I was expecting a long wait time. But that didn’t happen; he called me that very next day and told me that everything was in and that they were ready to attend school. Not only was he fast and efficient he was very polite and smelled good. I also noticed all the kids waving and speaking as they passed the main office. Some of the children even saluted the gentleman. The teachers were very informative and helped out with all my needs. I was hesitant at first about placing my kids at Camp Allen, but once I walked in and meet staff my fears vanished…..Great School and Great Staff!!!
I am astonished to read such horrible reviews of this wonderful school. I made the choice to send my son here after watching the dedication of the teachers, staff and administration. I have always been welcomed with a smile and asked to join in and volunteer. I am often at this school and have never witnesses a teacher or other staff bully a child. I have seen many staff members go out of their way to comfort children. My son was even able to visit the office to share his work and be praised by the secretary and administration. This is a staff that works above and beyond their duty to help the children succeed and it is getting better each year. I believe they care for each student and want them to achieve their full potential. My son feels loved and cared for and always shares the kind words and encouragement he recieves. He has become a better student, more positive and happier since starting at Camp Allen. Get involved and see how wonderful this school is and how they are striving to be even better.
Gets worse & worse every year.
My children have been attending this school for quite some time now and it seems to get worse every year.
There are a few good teachers (only about 1 per grade), but that's about it. The PTA are nothing but a bunch of stuck up snobs that have their own clique (so don't even try getting involved), the principal is extremely rude and has an attitude problem, and the front office secretary is one of the cruelest human beings I have ever come in contact with. She will give you hell in every way possible just for breathing the same air as her. I've heard from other parents that the only way she'll be nice to you is if you call her out and put her in her place.
Bully's at this school are a HUGE problem and it's never correctly addressed or dealt with.
Not only does the school need to be torn down and rebuilt, but they need actual playgrounds for the children, not just steel posts that look like something from a 1960's play yard.
It's also not the cleanest school. One of my children caught lice from another child, and of course when I called to report it (like you're supposed to do), the nurse informed me that no one else in the school had reported any cases of lice all year. I've also found a dead mouse inside the school before.
It's sad because even though I had heard bad things about this school, I still tried to keep an open mind and make decisions based upon my own experiences.
We are moving and removing our children from this school.
I have had nothing but problems since the first day of the 2012-2013 school year. My daughter's teacher was very rude to her and was on the border of bullying her. The problem was so bad that the principal felt the need to move my daughter out the that classroom and a few weeks later the teacher was fired. After moving to a new class a group of five students began bullying my daughter verbally and physically. My daughter reports the bullying to her teacher but all the teacher does is tell the children to stop, but that only makes it worse because on the way back to their seat the students will walk by my daughters seat call her the "B" word and smack her in the back of the head. A little boy tried to lure my daughter into the bathroom and when she reported that to the gym teacher he did nothing and told her to go home and tell her mom. The bullying has gotten so bad and the school has done nothing for so long that I have contacted the police. If you can avoid it please refrain from sending your children to this school. Don't take the first no you hear do your best to send them to swells point if you can.
Not the place to bring your child if they are just beginning school the teachers are not only stern but ridicule children and I have even been witness to a teacher snatching a student and dragging them toward her. They act sweet as pie but are not at all what they seem. Go to sewells point top notch administration and awsome teachers.
I love this school ,the friendly yet stern teachers make it eaisy for my son to learn . I'v never had a problem and my son love to go to school every day i have to say that this is the best shool yet and being military we move allot so i rat this school a 4. not a 5 due to the outside apperance but all is well with learning inside
