Benson Hill Elementary School Reviews

My son just started kindergarten at Benson Hill and it's been nothing but a positive experience for him. He comes home with at least one Pawsitive Ticket a day, which boosts his confidence 100-fold. His teachers, Mrs. Jex and Ms. Poulton are great, very supportive and know how to keep things in perspective. They have worked with him, signing him off, his IEP and this is a great accomplishment for a 6-year-old... he's well on his way to academic success. I plan to keep my son in this school.

Overall, the teachers are dedicated, with young enthusiastic teachers along with your experienced hardworking teachers. They work alongside each other sharing ideas about teaching styles, incentive programs & discipline problems.
Benson Hill has a great PTA program. They are especially good at complimenting  the teachers efforts to improve reading at the school & make reading fun for the kids. This is the only school in the Renton School District that still has the RIF program - a federally funded program that gives free books to each child, a book that is their own to take home. The school has had this program since 1976. To help keep art alive in our schools the Benson Hill PTA funds a Dance week at school where the kids get to learn different dances all week culminating in a Dance Night where the kids get to bring their families to school & show off those moves. The parents & siblings get to join in the fun. The PTA also sponsors Reflections (a national art contest).
The school lacks any after school programs such as athletics or science clubs, or anything like you might see at other schools. This may be because there is no funding for this type of thing through the school district at the elementary level.  The unwillingness of staff members to supervise &/or run such programs also plays a role in this.
