About This School
Alternative schools are public schools that offer nontraditional education for students whose needs cannot be met in a regular, special education, or vocational school. While alternative schools are distinct from regular, special education, and vocational schools in their teaching approach or classroom environment, they can provide similar services and/or curriculum for students. Alternative schools include schools for potential dropouts, residential treatment centers for substance abuse, schools for chronic truants, and schools for students with behavioral problems. West Valley City School Reviews
This is the best learning opportunity you can give to your child. This school goes from fifth to eighth grade. My son will be going into eighth grade. The bottom floor of the school is set up like a city. Every afternoon the kids go to their jobs (which they have to write resumes and interview for) and earn city bucks. They understand it's a privilege to go there, which makes for few discipline problems. It's a small school where everyone knows everyone and the older students are encouraged to help the younger ones. They don't use textbooks, which makes for unique hands on learning. The projects they do every quarter has helped my son with self esteem, speaking in public, and doing an awesome job at researching. I know he will be prepared for high school and life beyond because of the skills learned here. My son has adjusted to teenage years better than in a traditional school because of the students and staff making it be a safe place to learn, a place where they are free to be themselves without judgement. My younger son is so excited to be going there when its time.
