My child has been given an excellent start at Gifford Elementary School. He was very nervous to begin four year-old kindergarten however his teacher and the aids have made him very comfortable at school. He looks forward to going to school and learning. Gifford offers many activities to the children and families throughout the school year. Many of which are social events that bring parents and teachers together to create a more family friendly learning environment.

Brenda: Mr. Russo, the principal, knows most of the 900 students by name. He is easily approachable by parents. He acts right away on any issue brought to his attention. The teachers are also very approachable and helpful. My kids enjoy school and are high achieving students. They have specialist programs of music (choir & instrument), gym, art, computers & library. Gifford PTA has a strong parental involvement.

Jeana Ace: Best school in Racine by far! All staff from Principal, teachers, aides, admin staff...everyone go out their way and really make you & your child feel special. If test score weren't enough proof of the quality education your child receives then just have a conversation with your child. You will hear all sorts of interesting things they've learned and see how excited they are to do so.
I feel Gifford is a big family and the people, friends, lessons..experiences we've made whilst here will last a lifetime.

I am fairly new to this area and this school. So far our experiences have been positive. The teachers, office staff, and speech program are great. It's a very welcoming school and you can tell they care about your child. I'm looking forward to the years to come since my son just started the 4 year old kindergarten program.

This is our last child going through Gifford and Gifford has been a great learning experience for all of our children.

This is my daughter's second year at Gifford. She is in K5. Gifford is truly the top elementary school in the district due to the exceptional principal, staff, teachers, parents and students. It takes the combined effort of all involved in the school to make it shine and it truly does shine the brightest in the area.
I looked intensively at several school options in the area due to many concerns that I have heard in the district. After getting exposed to Gifford during my daughter's K4 year and experiencing first hand what I had heard regarding Gifford's outstanding environment, I knew that Gifford was the best place for us, all things considered.
It goes without saying that it is the people that truly make Gifford the best elementary school in the area.
My only concerns are that the district will do something to change the dynamic of the school and make it difficult to maintain and grow its high standards. The district can easily take away from the school things that the school staff and parents have worked hard to build as well as, intentionally or not, limit support for the school because it does not fall within the federal funding guidelines that most other schools in the district do fall within. A prime area of concern at this time is the electronic equipment (computers, digital boards, etc.). Sure the district purchases and provides new software but the hardware is horrendously outdated to make the new software useful. Most other schools in the district have brand new computers. Many of Giffords are 10 years old. Updating 10 year old hardware is not going to cut it. I'll leave it at that. However, this is a district issue and is no reflection on the excellence at Gifford school.

Anne Stillman: Gifford is the most outstanding elementary school in Racine, in my opinion. The kids are challenged with the curriculum, yet provided enough support to work through it. The cooperation and communication between parents and teachers is outstanding and it evidenced by a very strong PTA organization. The music and choir program has been an exceptional experience for my children who didn't have much interested until coming to Gifford. They are both in the auditioned choir and have learned songs with 3 part harmony, which is amazing at the elementary school level. The principal does an excellent job running the school and seems to have a great relationship with the staff there. I am so happy my kids are there. My only wish is that Gifford could become a middle school as well so my kids could attend there K-8 grades.

We moved to Racine 4 years ago and made sure your new home was in Gifford's district. We have been very happy with the school. The teacher's and staff are wonderful. Both of our children have had the need to have LD classes and the support we have received is unbelievable! My children have never felt different. In most cases they felt special because they got to have the LD teachers who are incredibly creative and fun. They truly understand that LD kids just need to learn in a different way.
My only complaint about Gifford is that it is not K - 8. Our son is in 5th grade and will have to leave Gifford for 6th grade. No school is going to compare! Most parents I know from Gifford wish that Racine would redistrict and make Gifford K - 8. There are no good choices for Junior High in Racine! We need a great junion high on the west side of Racine!

Kathy: My daughter is now in 4th grade. She started in kindergarten as school choice but we realized the benefits of continuing on at Gifford so we moved into the school attendance area.
I was fortunate enough to do an internship during my master's program in Social Work. Working with the Mrs. Thorson in that capacity was so inspiring. She is the only Social Worker for such a large school and yet she gets the job done. I gained so much respect for all of the staff when I was part of the team.
Mrs. Peavler has done an amazing job with the violin kids. She finds ways to make the task fun and exciting and builds the kids confidence and self-esteem. Music is such an important part of the foundation of education.
I have enjoyed working with all of the teachers as Olivia has progressed through the years. They are all very knowledgable and observant.
The PTA does incredible things which makes Gifford really stand out from other schools. The Spring Carnival, book sales, fund raisers, Barnes and Noble, etc. are so much work but these are so vital to some of the extra programs and experiences the kids enjoy.
I rave to everyone I talk to about Gifford school. Keep up the amazing work you do every day to teach all of the children at Gifford.

We have been attending Gifford by school choice and it was the best decision I have made so far in regards to his education. I am sorry that we will not be attending next year as he will be graduating. I wish that Gifford included middle school but I will always have the memories and scrap book that I have made of him and this wonderful school. The principal and teachers have always made us feel at home and I will miss everyone next year.

Brian: As a Parent I am proud to say my daughter is getting the best possible education at Gifford. What does it tell you when parents are turning down Magnet school offers and choose to have their children remain at Gifford. I am also one of these parents and will never regret our decision. I know my daughter is SAFE and with the involvement of the parents and teachers this is one school that leads by example. Great job Gifford and I look forward to many more years. The best they can with redistricting is to convert it to a K-8 so us parents can continue.

I can not say enough positive things about Gifford Elementary. The faculty, parental involvement and overall behavior of all the students is outstanding. My daughter is in her third year at Gifford through school choice and I am happy that this is one of the few schools in Racine able to provide the education our children deserve. Our son will be grading 5th grade this year from Gifford. We have truely enjoyed every minute of the 6 years he has spent at Gifford. The education he received was top notch. We wish Gifford continued through 8th grade. We will miss Gifford next year. We look forward to coming back for the annual spring carnival the PTA puts on. I have never attended a similar event at another school. It is fabulous. If you haven't attended before, you should.

Rachel Benson: I LOVE Gifford! Both of my children attend Gifford through the school choice program. I refused to send my children to any other public school in the district. My girls have been at Gifford for 4 yrs now and I could not be happier. I am so glad I did not send them to private school. The teachers are wonderful. I have worked with 8 teachers in our 4 yrs at Gifford and I have nothing but positive things to say about all of them. I am very involved in my children’s lives and because of my education and background I am hypercritical when it comes to their education. Rarely do I have to bring “issues” to the attention of my children’s teachers. The teachers pay attention to each child and take the time to see how each child learns. They make you, and your child, feel as if your child is their only student. What a gift.
In addition to the teachers, the staff is wonderful. Although Gifford is the largest elementary school in the district, you feel like family there. The front office staff and the principal know who you are and which children belong to you. The principal, Mr. Russo, seems to know every child’s name. He does not sit behind a desk but is greeting his students as they walk in the door in the morning and he walks the halls and visits the classrooms. The students see him as a father figure and they adore him. When it comes to fund raisers and community causes, Mr. Russo is always willing to offer himself as a reward whether it is throwing a pie in his face, shaving his head, of hosting a pizza or ice cream party for the winning classroom, Mr. Russo will do it just to get the children involved and excited. Spending time with the principal is a reward at Gifford not a punishment.
The music teachers go out of their way and are ALWAYS giving up their own time to put together performances and a choir, etc. They understand the importance music plays in a child’s life. I love that.
Last, but not least, the parents at Gifford are very involved. Most of the stay-at-home parents are fixtures at the school. Everyone knows them because they are always volunteering. Like a lot of parents, I work full time, yet somehow even we all find a way to give time and be involved. It is my experience that all parents give what they can to make this school the best it can be. Happy staff + happy principal = happy teachers and happy teachers = happy students who are eager to learn and prove themselves in this world.

Gifford is by far the best elementary school in Racine County. The school is full of caring principles, teachers, staff and parents. The "extras" the school and PTA provide is absolutely incredible. We will miss Gifford when our children move on to middle school.

Our oldest son loves attending Gifford, and our youngest son cannot wait to attend Gifford!
We are very happy with the caring staff and the amount of parent involvement at the school. It's a wonderful learning environment and I'm proud when saying that Gifford is the school our children attend.

Phyllis Johnson: We are so happy to be a part of Gifford. My husband & I both went to private schools, so I was very apprehensive about putting our daughters in a public school, especially one so large. We couldn't be happier! The teachers are wonderful. My daughter is enjoys all of the "extras", from violin and summerschool to movie night, the carnival and everything in between.

We are very blessed to be a part of the Gifford family. Our daughter, who is now in second grade, was invited to attend the Lighthouse Program at another school after Kindergarten. In speaking with Mr. Russo, we learned about the excellent opportunities available academically at Gifford... there is no other school we would rather have our daughter attend. We are also lucky to have such great parent involvement. There is a lot of love at this school all the way around.

Gifford is a great school and has the best principal staff that I have seen in Racine Unified. My children Love it there and they have an active and supportive PTA and parent base.

Gifford Elementary School
Gifford is obviously one of the best schools in Racine. It has a lot to offer a pretty good curriculum, lots of parental involvement, an established PTA, wonderful principals, and an awesome staff. What more could you ask for. Oh, I forgot to mention one of the safest as well. Kudos to the sign in sheets and visitor passes.

We have been a part of the Gifford family for the past three years and I couldn't be happier. The teachers are so dedicated and compassionate. They will go above-and-beyond to make yours and your child's exeperience positive. It's a great school and I know we're receiving a top-quality education. Thanks Gifford for doing such a great job!

I have a daughter in kindergarden at Gifford. I feel she has learned so much since she started. She loves going to school.
Her teacher and the rest of the staff at Gifford are wonderful. I give parent involvement an A+ and the PTA is so involved with many fun things for the students and families to do. I give Gifford the best ratings a school can get because it is well deserved.

giuditta fraley: We were new to Gifford last year and we did not know what to expect, but we are very happy with the school. We love the teachers, the staff and the principal. The parent involvement is also great. The actual school is very nice, clean and a good location. Gifford Elementary is an excellent school.

Shonna Ydunate: Gifford is one the best schools in the country. We have caring teachers and a principal that demands respect from the children and they love him. My child has comprehension issues in math and reading and he has made tremendous progress since entering their special education program. I couldn't be happier!

Becky Steinbach: Our family feels Gifford is an outstanding school. Our son is receiving an excellent education. He is in Second Grade. His teacher if organized, motivating, and personally cares for each student. The staff is friendly and supportive. We feel safe and at home at Gifford.

Gifford is a wonderful school. Our son is in the speech program and has very caring teachers. He looks forward to going to scholl everyday. We are so grateful that this will be his school through 5th grade and wish the school went to 12th.

I have 2 daughters who currently attend Gifford by school choice. We drive them across town every day so they can go to school here. Last year my oldest daughter tested into and was invited to attend the "talented & gifted" school. We chose to stay with Gifford because we truly believe it can offer her just as much AND we believe the staff to be even better! When we were contemplating our decision, Mr. Russo, the principal, took our phone calls immediately, even cutting short another call he was on to do so. That personal touch is hard to find, but it is here at Gifford!

We moved to this district just so my children could go to Gifford. Friends and Co-worker raved about this school and I completeley agree it is the best elementary school in Racine. I am 100% pleased with this school. Way to go Mr. Russo, the teaching staff and the PTA!

I have two children at Gifford and we've been very pleased with the school. The teachers are dedicated and enthusiastic. The staff at the school goes out of their way to make a very large school feel much smaller. Levels of parental involvement are high.

James Binkowski: I have had two daughters go to Gifford Elementary, with one still in second grade, and I couldn't be happier with the education and experience they have had here. Mr. Russo is a great principal, and his leadership really shows in the way things are done. The PTA is very involved, and this school more closely resembles a high end private school than the usual public school. My oldest daughter is currently going to school to be an RN, and I truly believe her success began with Gifford Elementary.

I love my school because they teach us a lot and they give you breaks like gym, music and art. I like the before-school program. I like the teachers because they're nice and I like my principals. I feel happy at school, and I never got to be at a school that was as nice as Gifford. And I thank the people that decided there should be a Gifford School. (by a first-grader)

I have a first-grader at Gifford and we feel lucky to be a part of the Gifford family. The teachers are excellent -- talented, caring, attentive, enthusiastic. I feel my daughter is receiving a great education, and she especially loves her music and art teachers. The entire staff is superb. I also appreciate the opportunity to be involved in the PTA, at school events and in the classroom.

I have had 4 children attend Gifford Elementary School and I would rate it as the best school in our district. The teachers are wonderful and they are led by a fabulous man, Mr. Russo. Many thanks to all of the staff, and I wish my kids could stay there for all of their schooling. More schools should strive to achieve what they have at Gifford. I'm thankful that my children can attend Gifford.

I can't think of a better elementary school for my kids. My kids love going to school and enjoy every minute they are in school. The entiire staff from the secretaries, custodians, teachers and principles are wonderful. I would recommend Gifford to every parent in Racine.

Gifford is a great school overall. My son has had wonderful K5 and 1st grade teachers who have been very attentive to his anxiety. His academic and social skills have grown immensely each year.
Many people feel the volume of kids is a "con," but I feel it's a "pro." It helps the kids see there are many different personalities, learn patience, and the transition to middle school will be a breeze.
We are very involved parents and have helped whenever possible in the classroom or outside school hours via the PTA. If you are a parent that does not have as much time, know there are many great parent volunteers there helping along the way.
I would say the "cons" for this school that I have experienced so far are: pick-up and drop-off are very frustrating due to the volume of cars and small parking lot; I do not feel the school counselor is very helpful; and although the principal is wonderful with the children, I feel he often speaks to the parents as if they are also kids.
Again, I am very happy with Gifford. We look forward to having both of our children spend K5 - 5th there!

Gifford Elementary School is a large school that maintains a strong sense of the importance of the individual. Students strengths and weaknesses are accounted for within the daily routine of the classroom. The many activities that are offered to students outside of the classroom is testimony to the extraordinary committment shown, not only by the teaching staff, but also the many parent and community volunteers who help to ensure that students experience a wide range of activities. The school wide commitment of the staff to support many community projects, such as food banks, as well as supporting individual families within the school community is a wonderful example for the students of the compassion we all need to foster to ensure our communities remain strong and connected. It is a wonderful school, and I am a proud to be a parent of a student who attends this school.

Gifford Elementary School has strong parent involvement. The principal and teachers pride themselves on a well organized, discipled school. They do know how to have fun too! Many family oriented events and plenty of special events during the school day give the students a sense of family, fun and school unity and pride. Its a wonderful school.
