About This School
Alternative schools are public schools that offer nontraditional education for students whose needs cannot be met in a regular, special education, or vocational school. While alternative schools are distinct from regular, special education, and vocational schools in their teaching approach or classroom environment, they can provide similar services and/or curriculum for students. Alternative schools include schools for potential dropouts, residential treatment centers for substance abuse, schools for chronic truants, and schools for students with behavioral problems. River Cities High School Reviews
As a former Student, I think more schools should be like this.
Over time, my academic performance declined due to the terrible one-size-fits-all educational system that the United States gives us. Normal schools treated me like an idiot based on the fact that I wasn't as good at certain subjects as the other students. Being treated like an idiot for years by teachers and other students, I started to think I was stupid and hated school. I made excuses all the time to stay home. Then as a 'punishment' I was sent to River Cities High School and loved it! I worked at my own pace and chose which subjects I wanted to work on and my performance improved dramatically. I went from D's and F's to straight A's. I went through my work quickly and found out that I am a lot smarter than other schools made me believe. Also the teachers at River Cities treated the students like actual human beings and made it a comfortable environment to be in while helping work on non-school related struggles like dealing with stress and anger. My attitude about school completely changed and I couldn't wait to go to school. This is how all schools should be.
