Crest Hill Elementary School
My son is going to turn 5 in August, just before the deadline for Kindergarden! I took him to the screening they had for new Kindergardeners and they said that he might struggle and that an extra year would really benifit him and although I don't disagree with that I do question thier screening process... It was 5 stations and my son spent about 5 mins at each one, when he was finished we were to talk with one of the kindergarden teachers. She showed me the results of what they had tested him on and yes it showed that he needs help in some areas. I am really concerned about what to do because I brought him home and I started doing a little testing of my own with him and the things they were saying he didn't know were wrong he did know them! My concern is how much can they honestly learn about a child passing that child from one stranger to another asking as many questions as they can in the few mins that they have???? I really feel that maybe some children are assumed to not be ready just because of thier young age, which is not to young in the 1st place or they would change the deadline or age required to start kindergarden Right??? My son did well in P-K is very excited about getting to go to the same school as his older siblings and now I might have to tell him that he he can't for fear that the teacher maybe upset with me for not holding him back another year!!! I want to do what is best for him and I honestly do think he is ready!!!
