Conclusions

My hypothesis that waterless hand sanitizers, generic ethanol, and AloeGuard are equally effective at killing bacteria wasn’t correct. Testing showed that the antibacterial hand sanitizers didn’t live up to their claims. However, the chloroxylenol found in AloeGuard, was very effective, killing 100 percent of the bacteria colonies tested after 24 hours.

Also, it appears that when products are diluted with perfumes, lotions, and other additives, they become less effective.

The table below shows the average number of colonies, for both the 1:1 and the 2:1 concentrations of each antibacterial.
