Supporters: The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) de-emphasizes bilingualism by directing funding away from languages other than American English. It is unfortunate that with NCLB, developing student's proficiency in their native language is no longer a federally supported goal.
Detractors: NCLB is a beneficial act because it places emphasis on all students learning English.
