Get the Gears Rolling on Your Child's IEP

3 of 7

3. Identify if Your Child has a Disability

During the assessment stage, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) team is formed. The team is made up of you, your child (if appropriate), regular and special education teacher(s), a school representative, specialists, and others whom you or the school have invited.

Along with the rest of your team, assess whether your child has a disability, whether special education is required, and which services are needed. The school psychologist will collect background info and classwork samples to evaluate your child's intellectual and interpersonal skills.
