Operations with Positive and Negative Decimals
When performing operations with decimals that are positive and negative, perform the operations using the rules given in Addition and Subtraction.
Examples
Example 1
Add –8.23 + (-0.61).
Solution 1

Recall that when two negative numbers are added, the answer is negative.
Example 2
Multiply –3.6 × 2.01.
Solution 2

Since a negative number times a positive number is negative, the answer –7.236.
