- A group of students was randomly selected from a large university and asked if they thought that their university's campus was safe or unsafe. Of those sampled, 83% felt that their campus was safe. The margin of error was reported to be 4%. Give a point estimate and an interval of reasonable values for the proportion of this university's students who think that their campus is safe that, with 95% certainty, includes the true proportion.
In each situation, identify whether the sample is a stratified random sample or cluster sample.
- A large environmental organization holds a meeting every two years. A simple random sample of female members and another simple random sample of male members were selected. Each selected person was asked whether he or she enjoyed the speakers at this year's meeting.
- Researchers were curious as to how often adults living in Florida exercised. Ten counties were randomly selected. All adults living in these counties were contacted to determine how often they exercise.
