Special Education Laws and Legislation

There are two primary laws that protect and guarantee children with learning disabilities the rights to a public education: Individuals with Disability Education Improvement Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. IDEA provides individual educational services to ensure that the child has access to and benefits from the general curriculum. Section 504 requires schools to eliminate barriers that would prevent the student from participating fully in the programs.
