Aloha! Welcome to the Hawaiian Islands. Surfing, or "wave sliding," has been a popular art form in Hawaii for generations. The sport gained popularity and exposure outside of Hawaii in the 1920s, credited to Olympic swimmer Duke Kahanamoku.
