(based on 1 rating)
Publisher: Chronicle Books
Topics: Fifth Grade, Vocabulary

Where do words get their meanings? Many words can be traced back to Latin, and there are still remnants of Latin word origins in modern English. To complete this worksheet your child will need to match the meaning of the Latin roots listed with the word in the right-hand column. To do so, he will have to think of words that share the Latin prefix, then find their synonyms. Is "terr" a synonym for ground, poison, or eat? Hint: words like territory and terrestrial will help your child! After completing this vocabulary exercise your kid will have a better understanding of the etymology of words.
