Teaching with Third Grade Worksheets

In third grade, students will be asked to work more independently as they piece together the skills they have learned to complete more complex tasks. The worksheets above target key skills, such as multiplication, and will help kids practice on their own. Here is a run-down of some of the key skills covered in third grade:

  • Language Arts: This year, kids will be introduced to more literary genres. They will also be given more tools for organizing their thoughts about what they have read. Third grade writers will create personal narratives, stories and reports on famous people or interesting animals.
  • Math: Knowing the times tables is one of the most important math skills third graders will master this year. This will be crucial for helping them to build the math fluency for more complex math in the upper elementary grades. Times tables can be found in our multiplication worksheets section. Kids will also continue their exploration of division, fractions, and decimal numbers.
  • Science: During this year, third graders study more complex scientific subjects, such as the food chain and states of matter. They will also take a closer look at the globe, as they learn to identify land masses and bodies of water.
  • Social Studies: Third graders are beginning to understand the ways in which people can interact with their environment. They will learn about modes of transportation and the ways that people communicate around the world and in their community.
