Week 17

## Short O & Long O

For a quick exercise, make a list of words with your child that contain the long O. See if your child can find different long O spelling patterns, such as o_e, oe and oa.
Have students brainstorm words that have the long O sound and record their answers. Point out the different long O spelling patterns (such as "oa," "o_e," and "oe"). Invite students come up and underline or highlight those spelling patterns in each word.

## Measurement

Play a game where you guess how long an item is using a nonstandard unit of measurement. For example, you might guess how many paper clips long a piece of paper is or how many pencils tall your cat is. Then measure using different units to check your estimate!
Continue your study of measurement by having students pick various items around the room. Estimate how many items long each item might be using either a standard or nonstandard unit of measurement. Then measure each object to check the guess!
