Long O

Long O

For a quick exercise, make a list of words with your child that contain the long O. See if your child can find any common spelling patterns between these words.
Have students brainstorm words that have the long O sound and record their answers. Point out the different long O spelling patterns (such as "-oa," "o_e," and "oe"), then have students come up and underline or highlight those spelling patterns in the words you recorded.

Measurement

Measurement

Play a game where you guess how long an item is using a nonstandard unit of measurement. For example, you might guess how many paper clips long a piece of paper is or how many pencils tall your cat is.
Have students pick various items around the room to measure with non standard units of measurement (like paper clips, blocks, etc.). Before students measure, have them estimate how many items long each item might be. Then have them check to see if their estimate was close!
