Week 17

## Digraphs at the beginning and ending of words

Have your child read books to you. In repetitive books, make sure that your chlid pays close attention to the text rather than just following a pattern.
Digraph study can help to move students from a level B to a C in reading. Model how to read digraphs during a reading mini lesson. It is important for students attend to the text and not just follow a pattern while reading.

## Sounding Out Words

You can teach your child to 'stretch out' words they don't know by sounding out each letter very slowly before saying it faster to figure out what the word is.
Bridge your word work with digraphs into your reading. Your students will be so excited when they discover digraphs in their leveled books and that they can sound out "big words."

## How To Writing

Do a check-in at this point in the year to make sure your child has the fundamentals of writing down. Review your child's writing at home or ask your child's teacher about potential areas of improvement.
When working on a writing unit be sure to focus on mehanics as well as content. This is a great time of year to review finger spacing and proper formation of lower case letters.
