## Contractions with "are" & "will"

Point out contractions that you see or hear in day-to-day life. See if your child can determine what each contraction is short for.
Help students understand the meaning behind the word "contraction" by stretching a rubberband. When you stretch it, you say that the rubberband "expands" and when you let it go, it "contracts" or gets smaller. Make the connection to making words smaller using contractions.
