Endings: -ED

Endings: -ED

Read a book that is written primarily in past tense with your child.
Practice the -ED sound with your class by labeling a piece of chart paper with three sections: D, T, and ED. Give students a base word — such as jump or cook — and have them say it out loud to determine which -ED sound it has. Record the answer under the correct column.

Realistic Fiction and Reviewing Conventions

Realistic Fiction and Reviewing Conventions

If your child reads mostly fantasy books, try introducing some realistic fiction texts into the mix. This will help them get a better feel for the genre.
Make a chart titled "Our Writing Goals" and list the goals you would like your class to work on — such as adding details, using finger spaces, using correct punctuation, or writing neatly. Give students a sticky note with their name on it and allow them to place it next to the goal they would like to work on. Remind them of this goal and use it as a talking point during writing conferences.
