Plural Endings: -ES

Plural Endings: -ES

Challenge your child to pluralize nouns on their spelling lists.
The Sparkle Game is a fun, engaging way for students to practice spelling. Have students stand in a circle; tell them the singular form of a noun and ask them to spell the plural form. Then, select one student to start a word by saying only the first letter. Moving clockwise, each student will say the next letter of the word to create its plural form. Anyone who says the wrong letter must sit down. The last student standing is the winner!

Figurative Language: Hyperbole

Figurative Language: Hyperbole

Hyperbole is extreme over-exaggeration, such as "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!" Together with your child, try to think of as many hyperbole examples as you can!
Tall Tales are a great way to introduce students to hyperbole. Read students a tall tale and ask them to identify which parts they think are exaggerated or are hyperbolic. Discuss why an author would use hyperbole to enhance their story, and encourage students to experiment with hyperbole in their own writing.
